All of God rules and commandments are made specifically to provide happiness to His people.
What books do you like to read? Whatever your preferred genre is, you like those books because you feel good reading them.
During my teenage years, I loved reading various types of novels. I loved it that when I was reading them, I could immerse myself in the characters and storyline. It felt like a type of fantasy world I could momentarily get myself into. Growing up, I knew that was escapism. I loved it only because during those hours of reading the words, I could forget the unhappiness I felt and I could pretend, at least for a while, I was someone else living another life story. It felt almost like freedom. Well, it was ‘fake’ freedom, though. It was not real and not at all lasting.
The Word of God is not like that at all.
Psalm 19:8 ERV
The Lord’s laws are right. They make people happy.
The Lord’s commands are good.
They show people the right way to live.
I think this verse brings to us this good news –
All of God’s rules and commandments are made specifically
to provide happiness to His people.
Rules and laws are something that most people do not really like. We mostly do not like being told what to do or how to do it. We want the freedom to do what we want, when we want and how we want to do it. But is that sort of freedom always good for us?
Can you imagine a soccer game without rules? Players are free to kick whichever way they want, they can trample over others’ feet and push others down, just so that they can score a goal. Is that a happy soccer game, you think? Or how about traveling on the road with no traffic laws? Do you think you will be happy driving or walking down the street?
Psalm 19:8 tells us the Lord’s laws are right and His commands are good. Our sovereign God gives us His Word for our benefit and well-being. His Word gives us light on our path and provides insight for our everyday living. His Word sets for us sort of a spiritual boundary, not to restrict and suffocate us, but to give us freedom to be walking in His joy and blessings and living out His purpose. God’s Word points us to the right path to take so that we do fall prey to the devil’s luring scheme and stray away. God’s Word shows us all how to live happy!

1 Happy are all who perfectly follow the laws of God.
2 Happy are all who search for God and always do His will.
“Heavenly Father, I pray for every person reading this that they from this point truly find that perfect joy and freedom in Your Word. I pray in every choice they make in life, they would always seek to follow Your Word and Your will for them. Bless them and their family with Your perfect joy and delight as they always obey Your Word. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.”
