HAPPILY STRONG

by Christie Han

Psalm 84:5 HCSB

Happy are the people whose strength is in You, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.

I really think that these are the two things we grapple with a lot in life – weariness and weakness. Agree with me?

At most points in our life, we experience weariness and weakness of some sort – be it emotionally, mentally, financially, or in our health, family, relationships, ministry or career. It is at such points where we find it hard to have the strength to live well and to enjoy our life. It is at such points we tend to draw whatever strength we still have emotionally, mentally or physically, to try and overcome the weariness and weakness. Can drawing on our own strength sustain us?

Are you constantly carrying and fighting your weakness and weariness by yourself? Let us acknowledge this – we do not have enough strength to do that. That will only weigh us down and strip us of joy in our life.

Happy are those whose strength is in the Lord. It is time to place the full weight of our weakness and weariness on our All-Powerful Lord. What does that look like? Like what Psalm 84:5 says, we have our heart set on pilgrimage. We are constantly on the journey of seeking God. We are relentlessly on the trip to seek God’s wisdom and direction through His Word. We tirelessly attune ourselves to the voice and the leading of the Holy Spirit. Yes, let our heart be set on pilgrimage. Ever seeking God, His presence and His power.

In our weariness, look to God for He shall refresh us. In our weakness, trust in God, for He shall strengthen us. Then, we constantly have God’s renewed lease of power in our life, running the race ahead of us the way He intends, living out His purpose and glorifying His Name. Isn’t this what living happy is all about?

Isaiah 40:29-31 HCSB

29 He gives strength to the weary and strengthens the powerless.

30 Youths may faint and grow weary, and young men stumble and fall,

31 but those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength;

they will soar on wings like eagles;

they will run and not grow weary;

they will walk and not faint.

May you be happily strong, and living happy, because your strength is in the Lord, because your heart is set on pilgrimage, ever seeking God.
