Amidst the many demands and distractions in our life, we choose to find delight only in God’s Word, to depend on God’s Word as the Source of all wisdom and strength, and to drink daily from God’s Word like how a flourishing tree drinks deeply from the streams.
Psalm 1:1-3 HCSB
1 How happy is the man who does not follow the advice of the wicked or take the path of sinners or join a group of mockers!
2 Instead, his delight is in the Lord’s instruction, and he meditates on it day and night.
3 He is like a tree planted beside streams of water that bears its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.
The way we live is primarily seen through the behavior and actions we exhibit. Agree with me?
So if you want to live a meaningful, fruitful, happy or successful life, we must work on the behaviors and actions of our daily life.
Do you think your behaviors and actions are helping you to live the life that you desire? Good question to ponder, isn’t it?
I love how the Word of God sets forth the behaviors of a person who is described as HAPPY. Now, I am not sure about you, but I sure want to be that person described as HAPPY.
Verse 1 of Psalm 1 shows us the road NOT to take should we want to live happy. It is the road walked by those who do not depend on God, those who rebel against God, and those who ridicule God. No, this is not teaching us to totally have no dealings with them. If this was so, how would they ever come to know the truth about Jesus? What it is saying is, to live happy, we must not follow their way of life. In other words, to live happy, you and I must not go down the ‘way of the world’.
Then verse 2 unravels for us the road that leads to true and lasting happiness. I call it the ‘way of the Word’. Amidst the many demands and distractions in our life, we choose to find delight only in God’s Word, to depend on God’s Word as the Source of all wisdom and strength, and to drink daily from God’s Word like how a flourishing tree drinks deeply from the streams.
Choose always the way of the Word. Let our daily behaviors and actions be according to God’s ways. For this is the way to live happy – where whatever we do shall prosper.
Let us pray –
Dear Heavenly Father, we recognize that to live happy is our choice to make. We commit to choose Your way, the way of Your Word. For it is only when we follow Your Word that we can stand rooted in the face of storms and opposition, and be flourishing and fruitful in all that we do. Holy Spirit, lead and guide us to always live according to the Word in every area of our life, reflecting who our God is for all to see. In Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen.
